G’day Fixers!
So you want to get started with some Home DIY or have already kicked off the
journey of becoming a handy-person and need some guidance on what tools
you need and which ones you don’t. This list is for you, curated from my 8 or so
years of fixing and making things for myself and others.
This list features all the tools I mention in my “Handyman & DIY’r Tool Checklist”
video, plus a few I forgot about! Please note that these are all affiliate links,
which don’t cost you anything, but support my channel. I’ve not listed my
exact tools, but those that on the day I created this were available and
represented good value. Keep in mind, Amazon products come and go all the
time, so if the link doesn’t work, just use it as a starting point for your own
research into that tool.
I have, where possible, linked to a more budget-friendly option. Alongside the
budget option, I have listed Makita, where possible, for you to compare the
cost of upgrading the power tools to a higher quality brand. I’ve used Makita
for years with no issues, but they are trade-level gear; the Ryobi or something
more budget-friendly will likely serve the home DIY’er more than well enough. I
have also at times listed a ‘kit’ to consider alongside the mentioned tool to
give you even more options and flexibility.
As a final note, even the Beginner’s list comes in at around USD$650 or about
AUD$1,000 if you pop everything in the shopping basket. Remember, you don’t
need to get it all at once. Refer to this list for ideas to get you started, and build
up as your budget allows and projects demand. PS - I’ve also not touched
painting, plumbing or electrical tools... that’s a WHOLE other list 😉
